Behind J A Alcock & Son's commitment to exceptional customer service and knowledge transfer stands a dedicated, tight-knit team. While one member works full-time, the collective effort extends to passionate volunteers who provide invaluable support. Together, we ensure the continuity of horological excellence and the passing on of expertise to the next generation.
Ross Alcock FBHI
Ross, the sole full-time member of J A Alcock & Son, boasts a rich horological background. With over a decade of professional experience and a lifetime passion for horology, his expertise spans 20 years in the field.
Ross earned his horological stripes at the School of Jewellery in Birmingham, becoming a fully qualified clock repair and restorer. His journey led him to complete the professional BHI Examination in 2006, upholding his BHI membership since. Furthering his knowledge at West Dean College, Ross honed his craft and expanded his horological horizons. He subsequently contributed his skills as a Tower Clock Engineer at Smith Of Derby.
Beyond his role at J A Alcock & Son, Ross is an active participant in the British Horological Institute (BHI). Currently a BHI director, he contributes by teaching short courses, facilitating examination assessments, and undertaking various other directorial responsibilities. As the sole specialist clock repairer on the BHI Accredited Register in Nottinghamshire, Ross boasts a remarkable range of qualifications, including the Advanced Certificate in the Restoration of Clocks & Watches by the BHI, an HND in Technical Horology from the School of Jewellery, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Conservation & Restoration of Fine Antique Clocks from West Dean College.
Ann
Ann, a retired teacher, brings a unique skill set to her role at J A Alcock & Son. While she primarily manages office tasks like bookkeeping, work record keeping, and maintaining mileage logs, her teaching background comes to the fore during public events. With over 30 years of experience in school displays, Ann orchestrates exceptional exhibitions, infusing them with the highest quality standards.
Chris
With a longstanding passion for horology, Chris has fostered his interest over the years, even inspiring Ross along the way. In the workshop, Chris dedicates his efforts to tasks beyond clock repair. He crafts display boards, constructs tower clock trestles for upcoming events, and facilitates workshop reconfigurations when new machinery is introduced. When needed, Chris contributes to clock repair projects within the workshop, showcasing his versatile skills and commitment.

Bryn
Bryn epitomizes the next generation of clockmakers, passionately working towards his dream of becoming a professional in the field.
While he remains committed to full-time education, J A Alcock & Son stands firmly behind his journey. Supported by the George Daniel Education Trust, Bryn is ardently pursuing his horological training at West Dean College, following a path similar to Ross' educational journey.
His involvement is hands-on. During school holidays, Bryn frequents the workshop, gaining firsthand experience and insights into both practical clockmaking and the business facets of clock repair, all under the guidance of Ross.
